Canary Island Holidays

If you're one of the lucky ones setting off on a Canary Islands holiday, we're jealous. And, if you're considering a Canary Islands holiday, stop considering and make your reservations now! The Canary Islands is a must-see destination!

The Canary Islands are located south-west of Spain and north-west of Africa, directly in front of the coast of Morocco, and consist of 7 larger islands (Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera, Hierro) and several smaller ones (Alegranza, Graciosa, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste und Lobos). One benefit of traveling to the Canary Islands is that, although they belong to Spain, they are not part of the European Union, thus they are duty free. Oh, and they boast some of the best beaches in Europe.

Guaranteed Holiday Sunshine

It's been said that the Canary Islands enjoy an eternal springtime. Temperatures between the seasons vary by only some 6º C, with the monthly average temperatures from 18º to 24º C (that's between 64º F and 75.2ºF for you U.S. visitors!). Due to the islands geographical location, some 4º from the tropic of cancer and close to the African coast, the islands' climate is subtropical. While you may find the occasional tropical rains in La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanarote are typically very dry, meaning guaranteed holiday sunshine! And the water? In a word - nice. The surprising landscape, with high mountains covered by snow very close to the beaches, is an Water temperature varies from 22º C in summer to 19º C in winter.

Canary Island Holidays - Pick Your Island

Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is the island with the oldest history, and has the longest beaches of all the Canary Islands. If you enjoy holidays of diving, you might consider heading to the beaches of Jandia and Sotavento, known as a paradise for divers. Corralejos beach is considered one of the most beautiful of the Canaries.

Gran canaria

Considered "the small continent" due to the different landscapes and climate zones it offers: mountain, desert and tropical forests, as well as wide-sand beaches. You can sun bathe on the beaches of Gran Canaria, while gazing at the snow-covered peaks in the near distance.

La Palma

La Palma is considered "the beautiful island" because it is so green. La Palma is also home to the worlds largest volcanic crater, La Caldera del Taburiente. While on holiday in La Palma, be sure to visit the observatory on Roque de los Muchachos, the island's highest mountain peak.

Lanzarote

Are you fascinated by volcanoes? No Canary Island holidays are complete without a visit to Lanzarote, where great parts of it are covered with lava, making some people feel they've stepped on the moon. You can experience the volcanic landscape close up by visiting the National Park of Timanfaya, where you can explore the park by bus or rent a camel. (That's correct, a camel). Some of the craters of the volcano Montaña de Fuego are still active. It's even said that some of the restaurants in Timanfaya will even grill your steak on a volcanic crater!

Lanzarote is also known for its fine-sand beaches, such as Playa Blanca, Las Coloradas, Punta del Papagayo, Playa Quemada, Puerto del Carmen, Playa Grande and Playa de los Pocillos. For those who want to get away from the crowds, consider La Isla Graciosa.

Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest island of the Canary Islands, and contains varied landscapes of mountain ranges, valleys, steep coasts and wide, fine-sand beaches. Tenerife's best-known beaches are Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. Playa de las Galletas, another popular beach area, is located at the southern end of Tenerife, and is where you'll find many of the fine hotels. Two black-sand beaches you shouldn't miss are Playa de El Puertito and Playa del Roque.
