Georgia Mountain Vacations
Perhaps your vacation preferences are for mountain vacations, with plenty of trails to hike and bike. You may then want to consider the Pine Mountain area or Stone Mountain.
Pine Mountain is both a quaint charming town, as well as a recreational area. What most people come to the area for is Calaway Gardens, an awesome 13,000 acres in the Appalachian Mountains. There you'll find the world's largest azalea display, as well as one of North America's biggest butterfly conservatories. And, if you're not into azaleas or butterflies, don't worry, there's something for everyone at Calaway Gardens, such as Robin Lake Beach, which boasts the world's largest manmade, white sand beach, which stretches one mile around 65-acre Robin Lake. And for bicyclists, there's the 7.5-mile Discovery Bicycle Trail. Lodging choices in Calaway Gardens range from family-sized cottages to the luxury lodge and spa.Georgia's Beaches
The Pine Mountain area is also famous for Warm Springs, where former President Franklin D. Roosevelt sought out the healing waters for his paralysis. Visitor still flock there today for the waters, as well as to The Little White House, which housed FDR when he would visit Warm Springs. You may not be able to stay at The Little White House, but you can stay at the Hotel Warm Springs Bed & Breakfast, where international dignitaries and secret-service men and members of the press stayed while Roosevelt was in town.
Stone Mountain is another popular mountain spot in Georgia for vacationers. Part theme park, part outdoor adventureland, Stone Mountain offers attractions that will appeal to everyone. Kids will especially like the Sky Hike, which is a 1/4-mile adventure course of ropes, climbing nets and suspended bridges. Then there's golf for the adults. There's also plenty of hiking, fishing and camping opportunities to keep outdoor enthusiasts plenty busy. Accommodations range from campgrounds to 4-diamond resorts.
