Lots of people travel around Thanksgiving to spend time with family. But did you know that November is a great month to go on vacation as well? It’s well after the busy summer season and before the Christmas travel rush. That means you can find great deals on airfare and accommodations, and most vacation spots won’t be crowded.

Here are some of the best vacation spots in November:

Las Vegas – If there is such thing as an off-season in Vegas, November is part of it. Most people are gearing up for the winter holidays, and that means fewer people in the casinos and better seats available for the shows. Fall weather is quite mild there, so you could even enjoy some outdoor activities during your trip. Events held in the Las Vegas area in November include Las Vegas Odyssey, a festival celebrating gourmet food and art, and the America the Beautiful Music Festival, held on Veteran’s Day weekend.

Southern California – Southern California boasts beautiful weather year-round, and November is no exception. It’s a great month to enjoy popular tourist attractions such as Disneyland, Sea World and Knott’s Berry Farm, because school is in session and fewer families visit them, especially during the week. And it’s the perfect time of the year to enjoy the area beaches without having to fight the crowds.

Colorado – If you’re anxious for the ski season to get underway, consider a trip to Colorado. Many of their resorts are open throughout November, and they’re not as busy as they would be in the middle of winter. Just realize that you’ll be taking a chance on the weather. Make reservations with a resort that offers refunds if there is no snow, and make plans to sightsee or enjoy other activities as an alternative.

Southern Europe – If you want to visit Europe, November is an excellent time to do so. The tourist attractions are less crowded than in the summer, and southern Europe’s moderate climate makes for easy travel. Some of the best spots to visit this time of year include the French Riviera, the Canary Islands, Malta and Croatia.

The Caribbean – The peak travel season in the Caribbean begins in mid-December, because that’s when the rainy season ends. But if you’re willing to take a chance that it will end early, you could save a lot of money by going in November. Hurricanes are still a possibility, but if you visit an area outside the hurricane belt such as Aruba or the Caymans, you shouldn’t have to worry about them. If you choose the right destination, November is a great time to go on vacation. However, the weather can be unpredictable in some areas, so it’s a good idea to check the forecast before you depart and be open to changes in plans.
