Tennessee is perhaps best known for its musical heritage. It’s home to Memphis, the birthplace of Elvis Presley, as well as Nashville, which has been dubbed Music City due to its association with country music. But there’s much more to Tennessee than great music. The state also has lots of natural beauty, excellent shopping and a variety of fun attractions to offer. Here are some of Tennessee’s top vacation spots.

• Boone Lake – For those who love water activities, Boone Lake is a spectacular vacation destination. The lake itself is 32 miles long and has 130 miles of shoreline. You can rent a variety of boats at the local marinas, fish off of one of the piers, or go for a relaxing swim. Nature lovers will find even more recreation opportunities in nearby Cherokee National Forest. Boone Lake is also close to a number of other attractions, including historic Jonesboro, which hosts free concerts and an annual storytelling festival, and Bristol Motor Speedway, a NASCAR track that’s known as the World’s Fastest Half Mile.

• Memphis – Whether you’re a die-hard Elvis fan or just want to experience a taste of the south, Memphis is a great place to go on vacation. Its most famous attraction is Graceland, the estate of Elvis Presley, which features tours of his mansion and a variety of museums. But there are also plenty of other things to do, including shopping, dining and clubbing on the famous Beale Street, visiting the National Civil Rights Museum, and hiking, biking, boating or horseback riding in one of several nearby parks.

• Gatlinburg – Beautiful Gatlinburg, Tennessee is known as the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains. Its beautiful views alone make it well worth the trip, but this small city has much more to offer visitors. The downtown area is brimming with shops, galleries and restaurants, and there are also shopping malls and arts and crafts markets in the area. Nearby Pigeon Forge and Dollywood offer a wealth of family fun. And the possibilities for outdoor activities are endless, with lots of parks, trails and even a ski resort in the area.

• Nashville - Nashville is the perfect vacation spot for the country music lover. Its most popular attractions include the Grand Ole Opry, Music Row and the Country Music Hall of Fame. The entire downtown area provides the opportunity to step back in history with its beautifully restored buildings and quaint shops. Live music abounds, and there’s ample opportunity to enjoy other art forms thanks to the city’s theaters, art galleries and museums.
