Portland

What to See: Crescent Beach State park, Old Orchard Beach (7-miles of beach with an amusement park, kind of like a small Coney Island). What to Do: swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing and boating.


Harpswell

Where: approximately 45 minutes from Portland, along Maine’s Casco Bay. What's so Special About it: 200 miles of spectacular shoreline. What to See: Changing colors in the Fall, and the islands of Sebascodegan, Orr's and Bailey, all connected by bridges. What to Do: Eat fresh lobster and clams; fishing, sailing, kayaking, swimming, hiking and biking.


Lubec

Where: The most-eastern tip of Maine, along the St. Croix River near the border with Canada. What's so Special About it: The eastern-most town in the U.S.; is the first town in the United States to see the sunrise. What to See: West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, which was constructed in 1808, located in Quoddy Head State Park. What to Do: Relax on the sandy beaches. If you're into being active, you can also swim, fish, go hiking or sailing.


Camden

Where: Coastal town near Penobscot Bay; just north of Rockland. What's so Special About it: Shopping on Main Street; antiquing in nearby Boothbay and Searsport. What to See: 5,500-acre Camden Hills State Park, with 30 miles of beautiful hiking trails; Farnsworth Art Museum in nearby Rockland. What to Do: Shop on Main Street. You can also golf at nearby Goose River Golf Club. Also: canoeing, kayaking, rowing, parasailing, swimming, fishing, hiking, sailing to the nearby islands.


Bar Harbor

Where: Located on Mount Desert Island in "Downeast Maine." What's so Special About it: Everything, but, especially Acadia National Park and the 7-mile lSomes Sound – the only fjord on the East Coast of the U.S. (or, fjard to be exact. Georgetown Island

Where: Near Bath, Maine, which is east of Brunswick. What's so Special About it: At the tip of Georgetown Island is Five Islands, considered as the prettiest harbor in all of Maine; the waters in the area are some of the deepest and coldest on the coast - that make for some of the most sought after lobsters anywhere. What to See: Reid State Park, which some think have some of the best sand beaches in all of Maine; Josephine Newman Wildlife Sanctuary; Seguin Island Lighthouse. What to Do: Eat at the Robinhood Free Meetinghouse Restaurant, which some consider the best restaurant in Maine; the birdwatching and beachcombing is terrific; also, hiking, biking and fishing.


Bailey Island

Where: Located 13 miles south of the city of Brunswick. What's so Special About it: Has the world's only cribstone bridge; also, home to Mackerel Cove, an authentic Maine fishing village. What to See: Mackerel Cove. What to Do: Shop the art galleries; play golf at the Great Chebeague Golf Club on Chebeague Island.


Monhegan Island

Where: 10 miles from the mainland in the open sea, south of Port Clyde. What's so Special About it: It's known as the first settled place in Maine; virgin forest of firs and balsam; the night sky is spectacular; at times you can see the "Northern Lights." What to See: Monhegan Museum; the night sky; Monhegan Island light, the island's lighthouse.


Great Diamond Island

Where: Resort island located in Casco Bay, Maine; part of the city of Portland.
