Paris in August

Many Parisians take their summer holidays in August, which is good news and bad news for tourists visiting France. The bad news is that, while the attractions are all open, some shops may be closed. The good news is that many Parisians leave the city, which means there's more room for tourists to move about. And, with an average high temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit, it's great weather to make like a local and head to a local park with a bottle of wine and some bread and cheese.

If you feel like venturing out of Paris and exploring other parts of France with the vacationing French, there are plenty of festivals happening around France which will make you feel like you are one of the vacationing Parisians. Check out the Bayonne Festival near the Spanish border, which features fireworks and bullfighting.

If you want more fireworks and don't mind the crowds, spend some time on France's Mediterranean coastline for the Monte Carlo International Fireworks Festival. You'll be treated to some of the best fireworks in the world. And, if you're a fan of Champagne (who isn't?) then you won't want to miss the Champagne Route Festival in the beginning of August. During this time Champagne growers open their cellars for the weekend, giving Champagne lovers a smorgasbord of Champagnes to taste.

Prague in August

This August try something out of the ordinary: Prague. One caveat here though is that August can be a busy month in Prague as other Europeans are visiting during August holidays. But, for many, that just makes a Prague vacation in August more appealing. Prague is one of the world's most beautiful and historic cities, boasting castles and cobblestone streets. The weather is warm but not overbearing, with prices relatively cheap.

The Caribbean in August

Cool prices and hot beaches, why not! Considered to be low season for this area, there are many deals to be had. The hotels are quiet, prices are great and the Caribbean is a good choice for a Summer vacation. Going during the low season can be great if you want less-crowded beaches and great deals. Do be aware, however, that sometimes hotels will put off renovations until the low seasons, so you may have noisy renovations nearby. And, low season in the Caribbean also coincides with hurricane season. If you are concerned about hurricane season disrupting your plans, Aruba, Curacao and the Barbados are all located below the hurricane belt and as a result, are considered less likely to be affected.

Cruise the Baltics in August

Want the opposite of a Caribbean vacation? Cruise the Baltic. Baltic cruises are pretty much the furthest you can travel away from a tropical vacation. Instead of going to a very warm Southern climate, Baltic cruises take you to Northern Europe. The Baltic region normally refers to countries that have access to the Baltic Sea. These include Denmark, Finland, Germany, Poland, Russia, and Sweden.

Okay, so you won't have warm beaches to lounge on. But, what you will have is a cruise in one of the most beautiful locations in the world. With clean, crisp air and beautiful geography and landscape, this part of the world is a nature lover's dream come true. From Norwegian Fjords to parts of the Arctic, you'll see it all on Baltic cruises. Baltic cruises offer diverse options in prices, ships, destinations, and cruise lines. The season for Baltic cruises runs from May into September, with the busiest - and usually most expensive - departing in July and August.

London in August

August is one of the best months to visit Crater Lake in southern Oregon. At over 1,940 feet, Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States. Formed over 7,700 years ago when nearby Mount Mazama erupted, Crater Lake not only offers visitors unparalleled scenic views, but also a sense of stepping back in time. Asheville, North Carolina in August

One of the best vacation spots in North Carolina for outdoor enthusiasts would have to be the Asheville/Blue Ridge Mountains area where you can find great hiking, rock climbing and whitewater rafting.
