If you are able to vacation in Colorado during the winter months, don’t forget to visit the Rocky Mountain Skiing and Snowboarding areas. You can ski backcountry trails or hit the slopes with beginner to expert runs. You can also snowboard, snowshoe and snowmobile while you are visiting the state. If winter sports aren't your thing, you can still find plenty to do during the summer months in such fabulous ski areas as Aspen, where you can go horseback riding, mountain biking, golfing and fly fishing.

Then head on over to the Colorado Gator Farm, where you will find something you probably never expected to see in Colorado: alligators; over 400 of them!

Visit the U.S. Mint in Denver to learn how money is made. Tour the mint to discover the educational displays available as well as finding out a little more about the history of our money. While you’re in Denver, swing by the Denver Zoo. There are more than 3,500 animals to see with over 650 different species of animal. With so much to see and do, you will want to spend an entire day exploring all the zoo has to offer.

Just a couple hours' drive south of Denver, you'll definitely want to visit Manitou Springs and take a ride on the Pike's Peak Cog Railway to the top of Pike's Peak near Colorado Springs. You'll want to reserve an entire day for this excursion, as the train trip takes about 3 hours up and 3 hours down, with an hour at the summit of Pike's Peak, but the experience will be worth it. The train runs year round, so whether you go in winter or summer, the views are incredible. If you're a hiker, you can hike one way and take the train the other way. Most prefer to take the railway up and hike down, but, if you want a challenge, you can hike up and take the train down.

The Colorado Railroad Museum, located near Golden, Colorado, is a “can’t miss” location when vacationing in the state. There are over 70 historic standard and narrow gauge cars and locomotives to view on more than 15 acres. If you have a railroad fan in your family, this museum will definitely toot their whistle.

The history buff in your group will enjoy visiting the Pony Express National Historic Trail. This trail was used by hundreds of young men as they carried mail across the country. Beginning in St. Joseph, Missouri and ending their ride in Sacramento, California, and their trip took them only ten days to complete. Once the telegraph and railroad made its way across the country, the Pony Express stopped making their harrowing rides.

And, for something truly relaxing, visit one of the many natural hot springs which Colorado is known for, such as the Wiesbaden, located in lovely Ouray, Colorado.
